Realizing A Return On Investments From Attending Seminars

There are all sorts of conferences, seminars, camps and retreats out there for people who decide to invest in themselves. These are the people who like to grow from within! And they’re mega creative, always on the go and highly driven to success. I’m one of them! And, I know a lot of people like that as well.

I have attended a lot of seminars and conferences and have had the pleasure to connect with a lot of amazing people. I have learned about a lot of people through these events. And I have some valuable insights that I would like to share with you.

Now, if you go to a seminar just for an inspiration, it lasts only for so long. What happens when your inspiration runs out? Do you sign up for another seminar or another conference? Well, if you keep doing that, you are going to be wasting not just your time but also your money. I have put together some simple strategies so you could actually execute some of your own takeaways.

Here are the 6 strategies that will allow you to gain momentum and keep it going:

  • Set an Intention

Pre-plan before you go to your conference or your seminar. What do you want to achieve for yourself? Obviously, you’re not going to know all the information that will be delivered to you but, at least you will go over there with an intention to succeed. Take into account what Peter Drucker said: “Plans are only good intentions unless they immediately degenerate into hard work.” You will be able to tell your brain that this is what you’re there for. And that’s how you’re going to achieve your maximum benefit.

  • Extend your presence beyond your comfort zone

You need to get up and go to different tables and mix and mingle with as many people as you can. Talk to different people during lunch breaks and during recess breaks. When you’re sitting at the conference, sit at different tables. It doesn’t matter if you’re in the back of the room one day. Just make that effort because you never know who you’re going to meet with and who you’re going to connect with. There might be somebody out there who has the next business idea for your business plan! The next great idea for your business. So, sit a different table and network with different people.

  • Transcribe your notes on the same day

Before you get all dressed up and looking great for the cocktail event, take a moment to go over your notes and transcribe the key points. Review the strategies that actually resonated with you. When the conference is over, and you reach home, you might have forgotten the things that were said during the seminar by the keynote speakers. So, what are your takeaways at this point? You have lost your most valuable and impactful information that would have taken you to your next level. However, if you speak out loud the notes that you have taken into your phone or your tablet, not only will that information be cemented into your mind, it will also be clearly pointed out in your records. Now you have a solid reference point.

  • Plan to execute

Another thing I would like to suggest is: When you go to these seminars, there are certain things that will resonate with you and there are certain things that will not resonate with you. But the things that are resonating with you, I want you to pay special attention to those and make sure you have a game plan for taking that away from your seminar and then applying it to your life. As Sun Tzu said: “Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.” When you make a practice of applying that particular strategy to your life, that is when the real learning is happening. That is where your growth is. Not just attending the seminars and being inspired for a week but, actually taking things from the seminar and applying it to your day to day lives and seeing the benefits. Once you see the benefits, that result actually will tell you that you have succeeded and your money is very well paid off.

  • Say Cheese

Take pictures! You might say, “Why would you talk about taking pictures?” I mean, you spend hundreds and thousands of dollars probably all your life on education, either going to colleges or going to seminars or going to conferences. The reason you need to take pictures is it’s because it’s the fastest way of connecting with people. You can meet with people, or you can connect with them. Well, I suggest you connect with them. Make this world a little smaller, but make your world a little bigger!

  • Unplug and step inside

Take a couple of days off so that you can really soak in all the information that you learned from your seminar. Now if the seminar was great, your host probably over-delivered. You have a bucket load of information at this point. You know all the strategies that you will need for your business or for your personal life or even for your health that will take you to the next level. But, how do you implement it? This is where your days off will come in handy. The information is fresh in your mind. You’re totally inspired to implement it. Take baby steps to implement the new ideas into your life. Don’t be in a rush to implement everything Day 1.

All that is needed is for you to sit down and plan out your days so that you can successfully incorporate those specific strategies that will help you out. Remember: “Persistence is what makes the impossible possible, the possible likely, and the likely definite.” – Robert Half
